Terms of Service

1. Agreement to terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the NortheastVault breach checker at northeastvault.com ("Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.

2. What the Service does

NortheastVault allows you to check whether an email address has appeared in publicly known data breaches, using the HaveIBeenPwned API with k-anonymity. The Service is free to use and requires no registration.

3. Permitted use

You may only use the Service to check email addresses that:

• Belong to you personally, or
• Belong to a person who has explicitly given you permission to check on their behalf, or
• Belong to your organisation and you are authorised to manage.

You must not use the Service to check email addresses belonging to other individuals without their knowledge and consent.

4. Prohibited conduct

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to scrape, automate, or bulk-query the Service
• Attempt to reverse-engineer or interfere with the Service
• Use the Service to harass or surveil individuals
• Introduce malware or malicious code
• Circumvent any rate limiting or access controls

5. Limitations of the Service

NortheastVault checks known, publicly disclosed breach databases. Important limitations:

• A "no breach found" result does not mean your data has never been compromised — only that it was not found in indexed sources at that time.
• The Service cannot detect breaches that have not yet been publicly disclosed or indexed.
• Results depend on the accuracy and availability of third-party data sources.
• The Service is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute security advice.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or complete.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, NortheastVault and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed CHF 100.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, code, and branding, is owned by or licensed to NortheastVault. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our prior written consent.

9. Third-party services

The Service uses the HaveIBeenPwned API. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or privacy practices of third-party services.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland, without regard to conflict of law principles. The courts of the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland shall have exclusive jurisdiction. EU/EEA consumers may also bring claims before their local courts.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to the Service at any time, without notice, for any reason including violation of these Terms.
